Why is Full-Cloud CAD Such a Big Deal? [Infographic]

Image
By Daniel J. Murphy Your desktop installed CAD technology is old. Really old. The professional tools of 3D CAD have not changed much since the 1990s. Traditional desktop-installed CAD systems are powerful workhorses, but they still make us want to bang our heads against the screen. We know your pains. That’s why we started Onshape. Sometimes it’s hard to convey the benefits of full-cloud CAD in a blog post, video or demo. So we created this infographic to help visualize the big benefits.

SOLIDWORKS in Schools - A New Initiative

Image
By Kate Sibly SOLIDWORKS In Schools How do you inspire the next generation of CAD skilled engineers and and what age can you start teaching kids how to use SOLIDWORKS? Solid Solutions new "SOLIDWORKS in Schools" initiative aims to explore these questions with the view of developing a program of learning for Primary School children. Kate Sibly explains the initiative...  In January this year I began an exciting new venture to bring CAD and more specifically SOLIDWORKS to Primary School age children. I’ll begin with a little background information about myself: I am a fully qualified Primary school teacher with 11 years’ experience in the classroom. I have always enjoyed teaching the more hands on subjects such as Science, Design Technology and the application of Numeracy. I have had a long standing awareness of SOLIDWORKS as I am married to an engineer who uses this CAD tool. A discussion between us one evening, whilst I was creating a model cam mecha

Why Encourage CAD in Schools?

Image
By Kate Sibly SOLIDWORKS In Schools A recent Ofsted report on the teaching of design and technology has claimed that too many subject teachers are failing to keep pace with global technological advances and making too little use of modern technology. It stated that ‘Where the subject was being taught particularly well was in those schools where teachers challenged their students, assigning interesting and relevant tasks, and capitalizing on the use of up-to-date ICT and other technologies.’ However, the report also found that in ‘just over a quarter of the primary schools and about half of the secondary schools visited, there were not enough opportunities for pupils to develop knowledge of electronics, systems and control, and computer-aided design and manufacture.’ Computer-aided design is clearly identified in the Key Stage 2 curriculum yet it would appear from these findings that it is not being widely and effectively used as a teaching tool. Move your CAD to the Cloud

Image
GrabCAD workbench You know that it would be smart to move your CAD files to a place where everyone can access them, from anywhere. The Cloud makes that possible for your company. Who wouldn’t want their team to be more efficient, collaborative, and cost-effective? The trick to a successful transition to the Cloud is getting everyone - engineers, management, and partners - using the solution that you choose. And, it’s possible with the right planning. Assure your partners that they’ll benefit from smoother communication and will always have the right file when they need it. Explain to your managers that it’ll be easier to meet deadlines and that the team will get out of each other’s way. Show engineers how their everyday tasks will be more focused on CAD and less on process and documentation. Is it that easy? You can get through the challenge of introducing change, and get to the benefits faster, when you explain to everyone involved how they will experience meani

I hope this relates well with Nigerian CAD Education community, I see a future where Nigerian students and teachers can fully carryout all their research process right from the learning institutions available. Giving them great chance at producing industry ready graduates.  The biggest challenge of our student learning community with the CAD software is their prices. But not anymore, with Onshape that's become history. You can now access a powerful 3D CAD tool via your browser and practice your machine designs with ease. you can also join the Onshape learning community for supports and training materials. Sign Up and Design your world. And if you need a LIVE COACH fill our Contact Form. (Our door is open, with free internet bandwidth to make your learning process less worrisome). Hear what Cody has to say! If you’re using a traditional file-based CAD system, and you want to share your design with someone else, the process is painful. For most, it involves

SolidWorks CAD Education and Student Programs

COBie

What do you know about COBie? Construction Operations Building Information Exchange ( COBie ) is a data format for the publication of a subset of building model information focused on delivering building information not geometric modeling. It is closely associated with building information modeling (BIM) approaches to design, construction and management of built assets, and was devised by Bill East of the United States Army Corps of Engineers , who authored a pilot standard in June 2007 . COBie helps capture and record important project data at the point of origin, including equipment lists, product data sheets, warranties, spare parts lists, and preventive maintenance schedules. This information is essential to support operations, maintenance and asset management once the built asset is in service. More to come on COBie

BIM benefits your business Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes have helped countless firms in diverse industries operate more productively, produce higher-quality work, attract more talent, and win new business. With a rising number of government and commercial organizations mandating BIM, now is the time to consider implementing BIM at your firm. *BIM TALK Outcome of ACAN seminar on the 19 th of January, 2016. ACAN is an acronym for Association of Consulting Architects Nigeria, if you don’t know, these are host of leading partners at their various organizations. The 19 th of January event was powered by AllCAD Consult Limited and supported by Autodesk and Archibus, in which invitations are extended beyond just the ACAN but to other bodies of the household of **AEC industries in Nigeria. The seminar was delivered by Arc. Ayoade Aderele, CEO of AllCAD Consult Limited, and it proved to be informative and an eye opener to BIM (Building Information Model). He discussed series of topics ranging from the following          i.             The definition of BIM itself        ii.             What BIM is not,       iii.             The dos and don’ts of BIM      iv.             Knowledge of BIM maturity matrix (BIM 3 )      v.             LODs (Level of detailing/Development)    vi       How to

Research work on Wind Energy in Nigeria At NCAM Ilorin.

1.0 INTRODUCTION Wind is the movement of air that occurs when warm air rises and cooler air rushes to replace it. Wind result from air in motion, air in motion arises from pressure gradient. The forcing friction arising surface wind is known as convective circulation. Solar radiation heat the air near the equator and this low density heated air is buoyed up at the surface; it is displaced by cooler more dense high pressure air flowing from the equator back toward the pole. Another form of wind is the earth movement which form a coriolis force resulting in an easterly wind velocity component in the northern hemisphere. Local winds are caused by two mechanisms  Differential heating of the land and water  This mechanism is caused by hills and mountain sides (i.e. air above the slopes, heating up during the day and cools down at night more rapidly than the air above the lowlands). 1.01 Potential Assessment Anything that moves has energy and wind is a result of air in motion.
